How the Finger Lakes Region Was Born
The Finger Lakes Region was born as a result of a Niagara Region member, Dom Pullano (one of four founding members and past President of FLK), having a chance encounter with a new co-worker, Warren Hamilton. Warren was a Porsche enthusiast but lived in the Finger Lakes area of New York State. It would be difficult to attend Porsche events of the Niagara Region because of the distance. The geography of the Finger Lakes includes beautiful scenery from the lakes, challenging driving roads, and home to Watkins Glen International Raceway. Is there a better place for a regional car club featuring Porsche? So began a quest for a new PCA region in the Finger Lakes.
Dom and Warren were able to encourage a few more members of the Niagara Region to consider the new region, notably Ray Fiore and John Malvaso. From this point, the four of them began recruiting additional members that presented the opportunity to apply for a charter and establish the Finger Lakes Region that we have today. The charter was granted by PCA in June of 1996.
The Region celebrated its 25th anniversary in June 2021. As of January 2022, the Region has experienced a 26% growth in membership resulting in 130 primary members and 71 affiliate members. This is outstanding growth for a club of its size. Due to the efforts of the four founding members, the Finger Lakes Region of PCA enjoys continued success.
The Finger Lakes Region works hard to support its members and also works hard to support the communities within the region by donating to various community services like the Food Banks, museums such as the Glenn H. Curtiss Aviation Museum and the International Motor Racing Research Center, MADD, ARC, American Diabetes, Ataxia Foundation, St. John’s Home, and Camp Good Days. We typically donate 10% of our treasury to various causes.
